Collaborating With the Best in the Industry!

When we arrived for our first Western Canadian Home Watch conference in Calgary Alberta, we were greeted like we were long lost family members. We discovered where other home watch companies were located and shared stories of how and why we got started in the Home Watch business.

We heard stories about how one couple was denied insurance on their holiday home that they would eventually be relocating to, because they left the home on a Sunday and returned the following Friday. They were unaware that their home insurance on their vacation home stated that "A responsible person must be in the home within a minimum of every seventy-two hours." That mistake cost them thousands of dollars when a minor leak turned into some major damage.

We learned some amazing good practices and bad ideas from retired plumbers, electricians, property management companies, real estate companies, security companies, and even pool maintenance companies. The combined Home Watch experience in that conference room probably exceeded 70 years of helpful information for us to put into practice in our Nelson BC home watch company.

We discovered that there is an estimated one precent of Canadians considered snowbirds and that translates to 55,000 BC residents travelling south for the winter. 76% of Canadians have a second home in the Americas. Many of them are unaware that there homes may not be covered by their insurance policies while they are away. We all feel a strong desire and sense of urgency to educate Canadian's about home watch services and all that we offer as accredited members of the National Home Watch Association.

At the National Home Watch Association we go through a vetting process that includes establishing a business in our community with a legal name, business license, proper insurances, police checks, bonding, ongoing training and best practices in the home watch industry. We are trained in emergency situations, safety, water supply sources, key security, HVAC systems, water heaters, proper tools of the trade, reporting and communication requirements. We knew we made the right decision becoming accredited members of the National Home Watch Association that was founded by Jack Luber.

We met and became framily (friends who are like family) members with some of the most amazing professional home watch companies in the industry and formed long lasting relationships. We are proud to be part of a growing industry helping Canadians care for their homes while they are away.
